"'Touch James Murphy Tonight' achieves a tonal balance between a gritty and elegant industrial atmosphere, the sounds used in the rythm specially are really well constructed and combined, they sometimes remind of an early NIN; the contrasting vocal style (more spoken oriented) and melodies of W. James Meagher (the mastermind of the project) blend perfectly with the attractive dirtiness of the background music, the solid bassline and guitar parts are also given a lot of protagonism and they decorate the track with a catchy sonic groove that gives the overall production a lot of personality. ACHOJ is what you need to be listening if you want a more unique and fine produced take at modern industrial music."

La musique:

MUSICALLY TOUCH JAMES MURPHY TONIGHT IS A FURTHER EXPLORATION IN WHAT BRUTALIST POP CAN AND SHOULD BE. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASY TO WRITE AND PRODUCE A STRAIGHT FORWARD BANGER WITH THIS BASSLINE, BUT I'M ALWAYS INTERESTED IN HOW FAR I CAN PUSH THE CHAOS, THE CLASHING ELEMENTS, THE MAXIMAL CACOPHONY, THE DARK AND Truly INTROSPECTIVE LYRICS, WHILST STILL COMING AWAY WITH SOMETHING THAT IS, ULTIMATELY, POP MUSIC.

The words:

A few years ago I began writing lyrics mocking how nearly every modern single is about "tonight" or uses the word "touch" over and over again, but before I could finish it LCD Soundsystem beat (and bettered) me to the punch with "Tonite". I put the lyrics away and forgot about them for a couple of years.

I refound those lyrics on a scrap of paper as I was recording scratch vocal ideas for the song I'd just finished. i started playing with the words and prases . . . going places both dark and absurd. I figured that if i couldn't sing about every song using "tonight" and "Touch" I could at least slyly reference the song that already does. so I put both those words on either side of the name of that song's creator. It was an exercise in pointless meta referencing. and it seemed quaint to sing out a singer who himself sings out his references.
