"The first release from synthwave duo Sour Patch Boys is promising, this instrumental piece feels like a first step on the right direction, filled with great cuts/bridges and an interesting use of sidechain/dynamics elements and efx, it's definitely a track that immerses you in a seductive landscape of synthwave/vaporwave, a band to keep an eye on their next releases. INSIDE THE TRACK: [artist's commentary]
sour-patch-boys-dark-realm
We're a synthwave/retrowave audio/visual duo and best friends.
Our goal is to release music that goes hand in hand with an aesthetic, we're bringing our take of the synthwave genre and twisting it to the music that we make.
This is our first release, Dark Realm, a darksynth-sounding track, produced using various pieces of analog hardware, including a modular synthesizer, which gave birth to our duo name Sour Patch Boys), Spectrasonics' Omnisphere, Arturia's Pigments and it was all produced in Ableton Live.
We were happy with how the custom patches we made for the song turned out, both with the software and the modular synth patches.
The name of our duo, Sour Patch Boys came from that love for sound design, our love for making patches on software, as well as patching on a modular synth.
