Illuminate is the second single by italian electro-pop / synthwave duo Farewell, Sunrise.
The retrowave inspired instrumental, composed by producer Federico Ascari, creates a nostalgic vibe through the use of side-chained gritty bass and synths, dreamy pads and leads, and a strong beat. Farewell, Sunrise likes to play with genres to create a new sound: incorporating elements of modern electro pop such as song structure, transitions, beats and production effects, and emo / pop punk vocal melodies and character.

The band also makes heavy use of vocal harmonies and effects, such as the vocoder-drenched vocals the song starts with.
Singer Gabriele Catoni says: “Illuminate is the story of a lost love.
A man walks alone in the city at night "chasing ghosts", remembering and thinking about all the memories from past, happier days”.
